Together My Know-How

the 3 minute rule I learned for dry skin

Been rewatching this dermatologist’s video on skin barrier repair for probably the third time now lol.

The part that actually stuck with me… she explained why skin freaks out every time the season changes. When humidity drops, skin loses water faster than it can replace it, so the barrier gets stressed out before you even notice the dryness.

Her fix was so simple it felt dumb I hadn’t thought of it already! Put moisturizer on within like 3 minutes of getting out of the shower, while skin’s still damp. Locks in way more than putting it on 10 minutes later once you’re already dry.

Been doing this for about 2 weeks now and my forearms haven’t cracked yet, which for this time of year is honestly a win haha.

She also mentioned layering a thinner humectant first (something with glycerin) before the heavier cream, instead of just slapping on one thick moisturizer and calling it done. Feels weird at first but it acutally absorbs better that way.

Nothing revolutionary I guess but the “damp skin, 3 minute window” thing is what I keep coming back to. Wish someone told me this years ago tbh.

anyone else have these little things that just click way later than they should have
