[Learning] 10 pages before the shift, take two

Okay, starting this again today. Back in March I told myself I’d read more this year instead of doing another round on the game before bed, and that lasted about 3 weeks before nights took over and the books just sat on the nightstand.

The rotation at work flips every few days, so my whole clock resets right when I’m getting into a rhythm with anything. Which is, I think, the real reason this keeps falling apart, not laziness exactly, more like the schedule changes under me before a habit can set.

So here’s the plan, modest on purpose:
– 10 pages before whatever shift I’m on, no exceptions
– one book at a time, not five started and abandoned
– phone stays in the other room for that stretch

I know myself well enough by now to keep the goal small. Big goals just fall apart in a week for me.

Anyone else on rotating shifts actually keep a reading habit going, or do you just wait for the stretch of day shifts and catch up then?

same happened to me, 3 weeks was my max too

rotating shifts mess with everything, ugh

5 pages some nights beats zero, keep at it!

That line about the schedule resetting before a habit can set really got me. My commute runs about 90 minutes each way and by the time I’m home most nights the only reading that happens is on my phone in bed, which isn’t exactly the win column.
