Life Time Learning Notes

[Video] Notes from a barrier care webinar I watched

been watching a bunch of free skin health videos lately bc my skin always tips over right when the season changes lol

so this one had a dermatologist going over why that happens and I actually took notes for once haha

main thing she said is barrier function drops more from humidity swinging than from temperature itself. like the actual number matters less than how fast it moves

she broke it into three parts for maintenance

first, moisturizer timing. not just “moisturize after shower,” but within the first few minutes while skin’s still damp. been doing it within like 10 min for the past two weeks and it does feel less tight by evening

second, layering thinner in the in-between weeks instead of jumping straight from a light lotion to a heavy winter cream. she said sudden switches shock the barrier more than the weather itself does. this one hit close to home, two autumns ago I switched in one day and broke out for like a week straight

third, and this is the one I always forgot before… cut back on actives (exfoliants, whatever) about two weeks before teh season actually turns, not after the redness shows up. by the time you see it it’s already inflamed underneath

I’m like 3 weeks into doing the reduce-first thing for fall and so far so good, knock on wood!

anyone else watching stuff like this lately. curious if the timing thing matches what you guys noticed too
