Been packing up the apartment for the move and found the humidifier filter I’ve had running non-stop since I moved in 3 years ago. Never cleaned it once.
Watched some random video on descaling these last week just to see if mine was even salvageable, soaked it in a vinegar and water mix (about 1:4) for 20 minutes, and the water came out a brownish color I really didn’t want to look at too closely.
That thing sits right next to my desk since I work from home all day, so it’s basically been blowing whatever was living in there straight at me for years. Skin had been steady for months but the neck itching started creeping back over the past 2 weeks with the weather turning.
Cleaned it, ran it again, and the nighttime itching noticeably dropped within about 3 days. Could be coincidence with the humidity settling out too, but I’m doing this every 2 weeks from now on regardless.
