a sorting rule from a downsizing webinar

Watched a free downsizing webinar last week while I was sorting art supplies for the move.

The host gave one rule that actually stuck with me.

Hold the item for 10 seconds. If you can’t picture the exact project you’d use it for, it goes in the give-away box.

Tried it on my watercolor stuff last night. Out of maybe 80 tubes and pans, I kept 23.

A few things I noticed:
– half-dried pans I’d been “saving” went first, no hesitation
– the brushes were harder, kept more than I probaly should have (the overpriced ones, embarrassingly)
– old sketchbooks went faster than I expected

The host also said something I keep turning over.
“You’re not packing your past, you’re packing your next project.”

Not sure that’s true for everything, but it helped with the art boxes.
Kitchen stuff is next, same rule. We’ll see how that goes.
