what stuck from a posture video

Watched a video last week from a piano teacher who used to deal with shoulder pain, the cue was simple, drop your shoulders before you touch the keys, not after you notice they crept up.

Tried it for 6 days straight before sitting down to pracitce.

What stuck –
– shoulders creep up after about 10 minutes, not right away
– a soft alarm every 10 minutes helped more than any reminder before I started
– hands felt looser by day 4, scales were less tense by the end of the week

Carrying the same cue into work calls now too. Drop the shoulders, then type.

never fully stopped, just catch it sooner now

the alarm every 10 minutes thing is what got me since I’m sitting most of the day for work and never notice my shoulders until they’re already up by my ears. set mine for every 12 minutes and kept it going for about 2 weeks before it started to feel automatic instead of something I had to remember. neck tension by the evening dropped off before the shoulder thing fully stuck.

Thanks for breaking down the day-by-day changes like that! The 10-minute mark matches almost exactly when my jaw starts tightening too.

OceanBreeze said the timer caught shoulder creep before it got obvious, and for me a plain interval never worked that cleanly. My shoulders go up the moment I start shelving books, not after a stretch of minutes has passed, so a schedule tied to the clock missed the actual trigger every time.

yours sounds task-triggered, not clock-triggered. mine’s still tied to the 10 minute mark
