Been meaning to write this since that early morning post about still being up after the shift ended. A couple of people mentioned the back being wrecked from sitting a whole shift, and that stuck with me more than expected.
So I finally sat through the posture class I’d had bookmarked for ages. One part actually reframed how I think about this.
The pelvis tilts forward without you noticing once you’ve been sitting a long stretch, and the lower back takes the hit for that – not the shoulders, which is where I’d been putting the blame this whole time.
Then the bit about feet. If they’re not flat and bearing weight, everything above tenses up to compensate. Never once considered my feet during a shift before this.
Tried just those two things on the last few shifts:
– pelvis not creeping forward
– feet flat, actually weighted
Didn’t fix anything overnight, but I caught myself slouching earlier than usual, which feels like something.
Still rotating the lumbar cushion in too, so I can’t tell which part is doing what yet.
