tried the pause thing from a talk

Sat in on a free stress talk through the library site on my lunch break, mostly because packing was making me want to throw a box across the room.

The part that stuck was almost too simple to write down — the guy running it kept saying there’s a gap between the urge and the actual reaction, and most of us walk right past it without noticing it’s even there. Not breathing exercises, not journaling, just… noticing the gap exists at all.

Tried it today when my kid refused to put shoes on and we were already behind because of the shift flip. Caught myself mid inhale, didn’t yell, just stood there a beat longer than I normally would.

Didn’t fix the morning. Shoes still took forever. But that pause felt different, like I actually chose something instead of running on autopilot.

the gap between urge and reaction is great in theory but shoes apparently exist in a parallel dimension where none of that applies!

the gap between urge and reaction is cute until shoes get involved. mine negotiated for a solid 20 minutes before agreeing to exist on his feet

mine does the exact same thing with socks
