Life Time ›One Shot Today

[Made] measured twice

Passed a workshop with the garage door up and stopped for a second.

A guy inside was checking a table leg with calipers, then checking it again before he wrote anything down. No rush to it at all. Measure, look, measure again.

I don’t do woodwork, but that kind of patience is exactly what pulls me toward the camera on slow afternoons. I mostly walk without much of a plan, and something like this stops me faster than anything staged would.

He didn’t even look up when I took the shot. Too focused on getting the cut right the first time…

Calipers Carpenter

Stood there longer than I needed to. Watching someone else be careful with their hands is its own kind of rest.

the part where he checked it twice before writing anything down is what got me too, that kind of unhurried care is so rare to actually witness. reminded me of double checking my mirrors before merging in driving lessons last week, added maybe 10 minutes to the drive but I felt so much steadier for it

does he ever second guess the measurement or is checking twice just habit for him now?

honestly couldn’t tell from the outside, his face didn’t change between the two checks, no wince like he’d caught a mistake. felt more like a groove worn into the process than actual doubt, the kind of check that happens because it always happens by now.

the not looking up part got me, like he trusts his hands more than his eyes at that point. I’ve been doing something similar with my resume lately, reread it 4 times before I let myself hit send
