[Item] the drill was still out

Had a driving lesson first thing this morning, 9am start, and my instructor swung by his usual garage before we’d even left the lot. Said he wanted to check something on the brakes first.

So I just stood there in this little workshop for about 20 minutes watching him work. Old workbench along the brick wall, a vice bolted right into the wood, drill sitting out like he’d been using it minutes before I showed up. Metal tools hanging along the whole wall, everything coated in that fine dust that never really goes away in a space like that.

Workbench Machinery

Reminded me of my dad’s garage growing up, minus the mess. Kept thinking how little I actually know about any of it, I can barely handle a four way stop and there’s a whole wall of tools I couldn’t name half of if you asked me.

We finally got going and I stalled twice at the same junction I always stall at. Progress is apparently relative!

Nah, dust clears in 10 min with a shop vac

FreshFaceJourney said 10 min with a shop vac — ours never clears that fast, more like 30, and there’s still a film on everything after

my garden shed tools get that same dust film, wiped it down 2 times this week alone…

FreshFaceJourney and SkinHarmony are probably both right depending on the shop, since a small enclosed space with no fan is going to hold that ‘dust’ film way longer than an open garage with the door up. My dad’s garage took about 15 minutes to settle after he ran the drill, but that was with both doors wide open and a box fan going the whole time.

i started keeping a rag by the door just to wipe tools down before touching anything, that dust gets into every crease and never really leaves

that feeling of watching someone work and realizing you know nothing about it, so real
