Missed the last bus again

3 times this week now I’ve watched the doors close right as I got to them, and tonight was the one that finally got under my skin a bit, if that makes sense. Stood there on the platform doing the maths on how late that makes dinner, how late that makes everything, and just felt this wave of tired that wasn’t really about the bus at all, if I’m honest.

Someone on here a while back told me not to feel bad about the counter shop dinner, after I mentioned the commute eating into everything, and I think I took that more to heart than I meant to, because it’s basically what I’ve had most nights since, standing there in my coat eating out of a bag because sitting down felt like one more thing. The skin’s not thrilled about it — might just be me, but nothing about the evening has a shape anymore, no time set aside to look at my arms before I’m already half asleep on the couch with the lamp still on.

The sleeve thing is still helping, mostly, but when I’m this worn down I forget to roll them up before I lie down, and wake up with the backs of my knees stuck to the fabric all over again. Winter’s not going to make any of that easier.

Still haven’t touched the CD either, if anyone’s been wondering. Keep telling myself I’ll sit down properly and work out the penalty instead of guessing at it on the train, and then the week’s gone again before I’ve managed it, I suppose…

three missed buses in one week would wreck me too… i went through a stretch of standing-at-the-counter dinners at 9pm more nights than i want to admit!

Has this bus been messing with you for weeks now, or is this week just extra bad?

Weeks for me, if I’m honest – this exact bus has been screwing me over since mid-September. I counted 4 missed connections before I finally started leaving the house 10 minutes earlier just to build in some slack.

Been there with the counter dinners too—did it for about 2 weeks straight after a stretch of bad timing. The tired after isn’t really about the bus, you’re right.

That exact tired – not about the bus – got me too, stood eating from a bag for 20 minutes.

Mid-September is a long stretch to eat through like that. I started adding 15 minutes to my own leave time after one bad week and still barely make it some days.

Eating out of a bag standing up because sitting down felt like too much some nights… is it that no spot feels right, or does sitting make the night stretch out longer?

Sitting stretches the night out, I suppose

The standing-eating part hit close, after my evening walks I’d do the same thing some nights, 2 grocery bags up the stairs and sitting down felt pointless.

  • SunnySide10.14

Honestly I don’t think it’s about stretching the night out for me, it’s more that sitting down makes my legs admit how ‘weak’ they still are after a walk

I think it’s the dinner clock for me, not the legs, though I could be off

3 times in one week would wear on anyone, and I think it’s less about the bus itself and more about what it does to the rest of the evening. My commute runs long too, and on nights I try to fit in a short run after getting home, dinner ends up pushed back past 9pm more often than I’d like to admit.
