RSVP deadline ate my one day off

The RSVP for the second wedding was due today, the one I kept putting off, and it landed right on the only full day off I had before three closing shifts in a row.

I’d actually planned to do a short run first, nothing big, maybe 15 minutes, before dealing with the card, because that was supposed to be the whole point of having a day off instead of forcing it in after a night shift. I even set the shoes by the door the night before so I wouldn’t have to think about it, just put them on and go. Instead I spent the first couple hours sitting with the response card and a pen, trying to decide on the meal option for a wedding I’m honestly not even sure I can make depending on how the schedule shifts again next month.

By the time I sealed the envelope the morning was basically gone, and the tomato bed needed attention too since rain was forecasted and the stakes were leaning, so that ate the rest of the light. The shoes sat by the door the whole time. I didn’t even put them on.

I guess the running was supposed to be the thing that made everything else feel more manageable, the shifts, the garden, the weddings, but on the one day I actually have the hours free, something else always claims them first and the run just gets pushed to tomorrow, which is a closing shift, which means it gets pushed again, and some days it feels like the whole week’s already decided before I even wake up.

I’m not even mad about the wedding or the garden, those things matter too. I’m just tired of the running being the first thing that gets dropped every single time, even when I plan around it on purpose.
