sent off another application right after lunch today, number 5 this month, then just sat there refreshing my email instead of doing anything useful, so I made myself pick up the needles for once. ended up doing almost 40 minutes on this hat without even remembering my phone was in the other room, which almost never happens with me these days. not sure if it was the yarn or just needing my hands busy for a bit, but it was the first stretch in weeks I didnt feel like I was waiting on something. going back to the budget spreadsheet now that my hands are free again, that ones a whole separate mess though.
forgot my phone for 40 minutes

same thing happens to me with knitting, hands busy quiets everything down…

10 minutes is my max before I check my phone

Not sure it’s the yarn itself… for me running does the opposite, still drafting cover letters in my head at 20 minutes in!

I’d push back on that a little, running keeps your body busy but your mind’s still free to wander, whereas counting stitches actually occupies the thinking part too. that’s the difference for me at least, 35 minutes into a hat and my brain hadn’t circled back to job apps once.

That tracks, my knee’s been aching for the last week of running and it just makes me fixate on it, does counting rows actually quiet that down for you at 35 minutes in?

yeah, mind’s still going at mile 2

gardening does that for me too, lost 50 minutes weeding yesterday without checking anything
