quick update on the bag trick

So, following up on that knitting bag thing from earlier today… it actually held up, during the call anyway, hands stayed on the yarn the whole time instead of doing what they normally do. What happened right after is its own thing and already went into the other post, so not rehashing that here. What I keep wondering now is whether it worked because knitting happens to already be within reach, or if basically any object with a task attached would do the same job. Would a stress ball work the same way, or does it need to be something with actual steps to follow, something your hands can’t do without thinking. Does anyone have a go-to thing they reach for before something stressful, not skin related, just something to keep hands occupied before they go off and decide on their own?

needs steps, a stress ball never lasted 5 min for me

same here honestly, knitting only does the trick for me when there’s an actual pattern to track, like a lace chart or a color change, plain garter rows just let my hands run on autopilot and my brain wanders right back to whatever’s stressing me out.
