does a humidifier take weeks to help hands?

My husband’s hands have been cracking at the knuckles for about three weeks, worse right when he wakes up.

Three houseplants in white pots sit on a wooden floor against a pale yellow wall: one with a white s

I got a humidifier for the bedroom last Tuesday and set it to 45%. I also switched his hand cream to a fragrance-free one around the same time, which I probably shouldn’t have done together, since now I can’t tell which one (if either) is actually helping.

It’s only been six days. Has anyone tracked how long it took before humidity alone made a difference, or is a week too soon to tell?

I’d push back a little on the humidifier being the variable to watch here. Room humidity affects the air around him, but knuckles crack from what actually touches the skin — hot water, soap, drying off, that kind of friction throughout the day. A humidifier running while he sleeps doesn’t do much for all the times his hands get washed and dried before bed.

Six days is nothing when it comes to skin barrier stuff. For me it took almost 3 weeks before I could tell the humidifier was actually doing anything, and I wasn’t even changing creams at the same time so I get why you can’t tell what’s working

Same boat here, 3 weeks into a change myself – is he washing dishes a lot, more than usual?

changed two things at once too and never figured out which one actually helped tbh
