wool yarn and knuckle patches

Started knitting again to keep my hands busy through this whole job hunt, and since I’m still pretty new to dealing with this skin thing, I wasn’t expecting the hobby to mess with it too. The patches on my knuckles get redder and flakier right after a session, especially with fuzzier wool. Not sure if it’s the yarn or just my hands being dry from washing them so much between interviews. Anyone who knits or crochets notice their patches react to certain yarns, and did cotton help?
