burnt dust smell from new heat

movers come in 2 days and the new place has forced air heat, we had radiators before so this is all new to us.

turned it on tonight just to test it before we move him in and the whole apartment smelled like burnt dust for about 45 minutes.

his skin’s already dry from all the packing dust this week, so I don’t want him sleeping in there if the air’s still off.

anyone run the heat for a few days first to clear that smell out, or does it only need to burn off once?

the burnt dust smell is usually just a one-time thing off the elements and it clears up on its own, but forced air itself is a separate issue that doesn’t go away after that first run. we switched from radiators to forced air in my last apartment and my scalp went from pretty calm to flaking again within about 2 weeks, and it wasn’t from any burn-off smell, it was just how dry forced air keeps a

We went through this exact thing moving from radiators into forced air, and that burnt smell is completely normal, it’s just dust burning off the elements after the system sat unused for a while. We ran ours alone for a good stretch before any boxes or furniture went in and the smell was fully gone well before anyone actually slept there, so it does seem to be a one time thing rather than

honestly with how dry his skin already is from the packing, I’d want the air fully cleared before he sleeps in there. ours took about 3 hours to stop smelling when we first switched to forced air last year

makes sense to air it out fully before he sleeps in there with his skin already that raw. cracking a window while ours burned off cut the smell down way faster than keeping it shut tight.
