retail job, on my feet 8 hours a shift, calves swollen most nights by closing time.
started trying actual workouts 2 weeks ago, bodyweight stuff at home for now.

2 weeks in and still showing up is honestly the hardest part, that’s usually right when people quit. I did retail-adjacent shifts for a stretch during grad school and the calf swelling by closing was no joke, elevating my feet for even 10 minutes before bed helped more than I expected it to. bodyweight stuff at home is such a solid way to start too, no equipment pressure and nobody watching.
man the calf swelling thing hit different for me too, not retail but my commute is an hour and a half each way and half of it standing on the train, by the time I get home my shoes feel a size smaller. 2 weeks into actual workouts already puts you ahead of most people who just talk about starting.
same here… 5 weeks in and still winded too!
in my case rest beat new reps by week 2
thanks for saying that, i push through soreness more than i should
retail shifts plus new workouts at once is rough, calves used to seize up too until I stretched right when I got home
both makes sense, showing up matters but so does listening to swelling like that. i stand all day too and only started stretching on day 10, still doesn’t help some nights
