Together My Know-How

what stuck with me from that skin barrier webinar

so I finally watched that skin barrier webinar I’d been putting off, mostly because the free replay was about to expire lol, and there was one part that stuck with me way more than the rest

the derm on it said flare-ups around season change aren’t really about the cold air itself… it’s about how FAST the temp and humidity swing. skin can handle gradual change but not a sudden drop, and that’s kinda why the itch always feels like it comes out of nowhere right when the AC switches over or the mornings start getting cooler

that explained soooo much for me. I mean every year around the third week of September it just creeps back even though I haven’t changed anything else in my routine, so I always used to think it was random

so the actual tip was to start adjusting stuff like 2-3 weeks before the season actually turns, not after you already feel it starting. switch your moisturizer texture a little early, ease the AC down a degree at a time instead of one big jump, run a humidifier before the air actually gets dry

I started a few days ago just in case since it’s almost September now haha

already switched my night moisturizer to something slightly heavier even though it doesnt feel necessary yet. figured better early than scrambling once it’s already itchy and annoyed

she also mentioned that showering in water that’s too hot does basically the same rapid-change thing to your barrier, even outside of season change… lukewarm water, pat dry instead of rubbing. nothing new there tbh but a good reminder anyway

wanted to share in case it helps anyone else who gets hit like clockwork every year. the “start before it actually starts” part was the real lightbulb moment for me, so yeah. worth a shot if you guys deal with the same thing every fall!
