[Did] Small laundry loads just for buzzer breaks

Been doing small laundry loads on purpose lately, just two or three items, so the buzzer goes off every 35 minutes or so instead of once a whole cycle. Found this by accident when I had one shirt that needed washing and the short cycle kept getting me up without me planning it.

Now when the buzzer goes:
– stand up, walk to the machine
– switch it over, or just open and close the door if it’s not done yet
– stretch my back on the way to the desk

Did this 9 days straight last week. Some days that was 7 or 8 stand-ups I didn’t have to remember or set a timer for!

Only downside is more loads means more folding later, but I’ll take that trade. Scales are still a separate thing at night, this is just a daytime fix.

This is such a clever hack, I never thought about intentionally keeping loads small just to force a break! I’ve been trying something similar with my phone timer since I’m stuck at a desk for hours between the commute, but I set it for 45 minutes and it never feels as natural as your washer just doing its own thing on a schedule you didn’t have to think about.

Something about the buzzer forcing you up without even having to think about it really gets me. I started doing almost the same thing a while back, except with my instrument practice timer instead of laundry, since I sit at my desk pretty much all day for work.
