[Saved] Did the actual math on breaking the CD early

Spent part of Tuesday morning with the bank app open instead of starting another cover letter, trying to decide if cashing out the CD was actually worth it.

Here’s what I worked out, for anyone sitting on the same decision.

First, the CD has $4,200 in it at 4.5%, with 3 months left on the term. The early withdrawal penalty is 6 months of interest, which came out to $47.

Second, I checked what those 3 extra months of job searching actually cost beyond rent — gas, the occasional interview outfit, eating out a little less carefully. Closer to $600 than I expected.

Third, I looked at what’s left in checking after 4 months without a paycheck. Thinner than I want to admit, if I’m honest.

$47 to stop running these numbers every week is a trade I’d make again. Moved it to regular savings yesterday. No new CD until there’s income again — just a plain savings account for now.

Ran the same numbers in June but kept the CD after factoring in 2 months of rent
