Been trying to read more in the evenings instead of scrolling until bed, and what’s actually worked is moving my phone charger downstairs after dinner instead of keeping it on the nightstand.
Here’s the setup:
– phone goes on the kitchen charger right after dinner dishes are done
– book goes on the arm of the couch where the phone used to sit
– wanting the phone means actually walking to the kitchen for it, which is just enough friction most nights
Something I noticed along the way:
– only works because the book is within reach, otherwise I just end up getting a snack instead
– weekends don’t have the same ‘after dinner’ cue, so I’ve stopped fighting that one
Turns out most of the scrolling wasn’t something I even wanted, it was just the easiest thing within reach. Once the book became the easiest thing instead, it mostly took care of itself! Read more this week than I have in a long while.
