[Did] Stepping outside after sending job applications

Sent off another application earlier and then did the thing where I just sat there hitting refresh on my inbox every few minutes, which is apparently my new favorite way to turn a calm afternoon into a shoulders-up-by-my-ears situation, so instead of doing that for once I grabbed my jacket and walked the block before letting myself open the laptop again. Nothing fancy, just out the door, past the corner store, around and back, the kind of walk that doesn’t really go anywhere but gets you moving, and by the time I got back my jaw had unclenched a bit and my shoulders had dropped a notch, which honestly surprised me. Between the job search and the string of weddings coming up this fall, there isn’t a lot of room left for anything that looks like taking care of myself, so this felt like a small win, even if I checked my phone right when I walked back through the door (old habits). Not saying it fixes the waiting, because the waiting is still the waiting, but at least my body isn’t bracing for it the whole time anymore.

refreshing my inbox is such a trap

the jaw unclenching part got me – refreshing really does a number on your shoulders

The shoulders dropping part really tracks for me too. I started taking a short walk around the block after lunch about 2 months ago, mostly because sitting at my desk all day was wrecking my neck and shoulders, and I didn’t expect it to do much beyond stretching my legs.

How many weddings are we talking this fall? I’m doing the same application refresh thing and only started walking after like 3 weeks of it!

@WellnessWanderer Several this fall, which honestly is half the reason I started walking too – just needed something to break the inbox refresh loop! You?
